Keyboard setup, common questions and a human to help.
Set up the keyboard
Once Toolroll is installed, add its keyboard in iOS Settings. You only need to do this once on each device.
- Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards.
- Tap Add New Keyboard, then Toolroll.
- In an app that allows custom keyboards, tap or hold the globe key to switch to Toolroll.
- Tap a saved text snippet, such as Start without me. It inserts at your cursor.
You can also find this guide in Toolroll under More → Keyboard Setup. The website cannot add or enable a keyboard for you.
Reading and inserting work without Full Access. You do not need to grant it just to try your saved text. See what that permission enables.
iOS uses its system keyboard for passwords and other secure fields. Some apps do not allow custom keyboards at all. If Toolroll is unavailable in one app, try a normal text field in another.
Common questions
Why does the keyboard ask for Full Access?
Reading your vault and inserting saved text work without Full Access. Toolroll uses Full Access to save selected text from the keyboard, record snippet use for ranking, and resolve {clipboard} fill-ins. It does not record what you type or make network requests. You can use the keyboard without granting it; those three behaviors will be unavailable.
iOS still displays a broad warning when you enable it. See the keyboard privacy explanation.
Why can't I find a snippet in the keyboard?
The keyboard inserts text only. Images and files stay accessible in the Toolroll app.
On Free, retrieval uses your Quick Set of up to 32 snippets: pins in your chosen order, then the most recently changed snippets. Pin a text snippet in Toolroll to keep it close. Return to the keyboard and use Reload if needed.
Lifetime Pro adds whole-vault text search in the keyboard. Regardless of tier, your entire vault remains readable, searchable, editable and exportable in the app. Compare Free and Pro.
If the keyboard reports a vault-read or snippet-size error, follow its message and open Toolroll. If the problem persists, send the error and your iOS version.
Can I get my snippets out?
Yes. In Toolroll, choose More → Export Vault and pick a destination folder. Every snippet exports as a Markdown file, with images and other attachments alongside. Export is available without Pro.
Keep the exported files together. More → Import Folder imports the selected Toolroll backup folder. Export and device backup are not ongoing snippet sync.
How do I restore Lifetime Pro?
Use Restore Purchases in Toolroll's Pro purchase sheet with the Apple Account that owns the purchase. A one-time purchase does not renew. If the restore does not find it, confirm the Apple Account and contact support.
Restoring a purchase restores Pro access, not snippets from another device. Read the purchase terms.
Where are my snippets stored? Do they sync?
Your vault is stored in Toolroll's private App Group storage on this device. There is no Toolroll account or snippet-content server, and no cross-device vault sync.
iCloud device backup can include the local vault, but backup is not sync. Copied text or images may reach your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account via Universal Clipboard; the vault itself stays local. Read the privacy policy.
What do widgets show?
Each widget can show pinned snippets or a chosen tag. It displays titles and types, not full bodies or attachments. Tap a card to open the matching detail in Toolroll; widgets do not copy to the clipboard.
Choose pins and tags whose titles are suitable for a glanceable screen. Free tag collections use Quick Set reach; Pro can reach across the vault.
What happens to fill-ins?
The keyboard resolves {date} and {time} when inserting. {ask:Day} becomes a visible [Day] placeholder for you to replace in the app where you are typing. It is not a separate Toolroll input dialog.
{clipboard} reads the current clipboard only when you deliberately insert that snippet with Full Access enabled. Toolroll keeps the resolved text transiently and does not transmit it.

Include your iOS version, what you expected, what happened and the steps to repeat it. For a keyboard problem, say whether Full Access is enabled. Please do not include private snippet contents.
